Kids and Dogs: two of my favorites…. no, really.
5 year old boy and his dog looking out the window - they are playmates and likely sleep together. Big production.
Producer: Client loves kid A. Me: Great, does he have a dog?? P: Parents say he likes them... Me: Put another kid on.
P: We don’t have budget for that. Me: I don’t care, put a second kid on. If we loose a 5 year old, you don’t come back from that (Dad wisdom).
Shoot Day: Hero Dog Talent is an 75 pound 1 year old - which means he’s trained but still a PUPPY. Lots of energy and very interested in the 30 people behind me.
We start: Kid A (white shirt below) is clearly afraid of the dog. I shoot maybe 15 frames, stop and glance at my Producer.
Call for backup kid, who’s been playing with hero dog while we were setting up. We continue.
Backup Kid is great but dog is still distracted. Eric lures dog with toy and location homes cat!
I love dogs and will use them at every chance I get. People can't help themselves but to react naturally. Plus I get to play with them between takes....
